Influence of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles in reproductive efficiency of adult male rats

This study aimed to investigate the dose-dependent and time-dependent effect of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MIONPs) on reproduction in male rats. Following their synthesis, physicochemical properties MIONPs were determined. Sixty-four adult rats, aged 90 days randomly assigned control (C), orally administered with distilled water, three treated groups, 1, 5, 10 mg/kg/day solution (TL, TM, TH respectively), for 28 days. Each group was allocated two subgroups, sacrificed after 14 treatment. After each period, males weighed sacrificed. Decreased body weight genital organ weights shown TM at both experimental periods, compared a manner. The serum concentration GnRH, FSH, LH, testosterone increased TL decreased groups At lowest expression levels pituitary FSHβ LHβ genes testicular inh-α LHR recorded highest expressed group. testis sections males, showed normal architecture, but those from degenerative necrotic changes, reduced germinal epithelium, vacuolation, number spermatocytes apparent. It is concluded that low dose MIONPS has beneficial effect, whereas moderate or high doses have pathological effects reproduction.
